Asheville is a great family travel destination as well as one that is romantic and great for couples seeking a get-away. If you want to combine adventure, culture, and really good food, Asheville is the place to be. Once you’ve seen the sights, shopped till you dropped, and eaten until you’re about to pop, you might want to look into some outdoor adventures to spice up your vacation!

If you are interested in a guided adventure for the whole crew just minutes down the road from Asheville, come check out the Green River Gorge. The famous Green River Gorge is a stunning natural playground – many guided recreational adventures are available here, some that go through the tree tops and others that are water based. The gorge is comprised of over 18,000 acres of state owned land called the Green River Game lands. When you aren’t marveling at the old growth and towering rock formations, you can enjoy any of the following activities: hiking to waterfalls, splashing in crystal clear swimming holes, fishing for native trout, and biking (just to name a few).

Situated on the rim of the Green River Gorge is America’s steepest and fastest zipline canopy tour course – The Gorge. This is the perfect half-day adventure for everyone in the family. The course is situated on 125 acres of pristine old growth forest and includes 11 zip lines, 3 huge rappels, and a sky bridge. When you’re all done flying through the trees, grab your river shoes and head to Green River Adventures for you whitewater excursion. Green River Adventures offers guided inflatable kayak trips, waterfall rappels, fly fishing, and whitewater kayak instruction. The Green River has multiple sections with varying difficulty that are suitable for young kids and adrenaline junkies alike.
